Students specialise through the VCE at Toorak College, focussed and committed to their final years of secondary school.
Toorak College welcomes many new students, including boarders, entering the School at this level. Toorak College students achieve outstanding VCE results and the school consistently ranks among the top schools in Victoria.
There is a good deal of variation in the VCE programs offered at Toorak College and students take a subject pathways characterised as:
- Business
- Visual Arts
- Humanities
- Maths/Science
- Performing Arts
Bardon House is a dedicated centre for VCE students at Toorak College; technologically advanced and offering a fully-networked multimedia lecture theatre, student lounge, study room and tutorial rooms. Bardon House is designed to facilitate an adult-style learning environment which improves results and supports transitions towards tertiary education.
Most girls choose six subjects in Year 11 (VCE Units 1&2) and five subjects in Year 12 (VCE Units 3&4). There is room at Toorak College for individualised VCE pathways in a timetable that is centred around student choices. Many of our Year 11 students undertake Unit 3&4 study as part of the School's commitment to an effective extension program and flexibility to suit individual needs.
The VCE offerings at the College are:
English, ESL, Accounting, Art, Biology, Business Management, Chinese (for native speakers), Chemistry, Dance, Drama, Economics, Geography, Visual Communication and Design, History, Health and Human Development, Information Technology, German, Japanese, Legal Studies, Literature, Materials & Technology (Food), Mathematics (all units), Media, Music, Physical Education, Physics, Psychology, Studio Arts, Design and Technology (Textiles).
Toorak College also offers a wide variety of VET subjects as part of the VCE program and these have been taken up enthusiastically by students in the past few years.
Toorak College, in association with the Monash University 'Enhancement Program' offers a number of 1st year university subjects, provided numbers are sufficient for the courses to operate. In recent years 'Philosophy' has been the most popular of these and has attracted a good response from Toorak College students and students in the wider community.
