Scholarships

  

Online Scholarship Applications for entry in 2011 will be available soon.

Scholarships will be available for external candidates entering Toorak College in Years
5 -12 in 2011. Scholarships will also be available for current Toorak College students entering Year 7 in 2011.

Please Note: Current Year 6 students on a Toorak College scholarship are not eligible to apply.

All 2011 scholarship applicants are required to undertake a scholarship exam at Toorak College on Saturday 13 February 2010, for both Academic and General Excellence Scholarships.


Following is a list of scholarships offered by Toorak College, including application information and conditions.

Academic Scholarships:

Academic Scholarships are awarded on the basis of exam results, supporting documents and interview.

General Excellence Scholarships:

Scholarships are awarded to students who have a proven record of involvement and achievement across a range of activities both inside and outside of school. In particular, we seek applicants with leadership potential and those who will both benefit from and contribute to Toorak College. We encourage applications from candidates with talents including music, visual and performing arts and sport. Students will also be required to complete the Academic Exam as part of the application process.

Boarding Scholarships:

Toorak College will be offering a limited number of Boarding Scholarships for external applicants entering Years 7-9 in 2011. Full Boarding Scholarships are also available for 2 external applicants entering Year 10 in 2011.

The Allfrey Music Scholarship:

The Allfrey Music Scholarship will be awarded to students entering Years 7-10 in 2011, who are not current students at Toorak College. Applicants will demonstrate a high level of skill and accomplishment in instrumental and/or vocal music and short listed applicants for this scholarship will also be required to audition.

Alice Sloan Memorial Scholarship:

In special memory of one of our past students, The Alice Sloan Memorial Scholarship will be awarded for a new student entering Toorak College at Year 10 in 2011.

Please Note: Applications for Boarding Scholarships and the Alice Sloan Memorial Scholarship can be made as part of the Academic and General Excellence Scholarships process or as a separate application at other times during the year.


How to Apply:

To register, applicants must:

  1. Complete the Online Application by the closing date
  2. Submit supporting documents (refer below) by the closing date
  3. Sit the Academic Exam on Saturday 13 February 2010
  4. Attend an interview with the Principal if you are short-listed (2-3 weeks following your exam)

Closing Date:

Applications will close at midday the Friday a week before the exam date. The application fee is $75 and late applications will be accepted at the discretion of Toorak College and incur a late fee of $70.

Supporting Documents:

In addition to completing the online information all applicants are required to submit the following:

  • A photocopy of the most recent school report
  • A clear and recent photograph of the applicant
  • A copy of any relevant supporting documents such as awards, certificates, photos of trophies. Treat the supporting documentation in the same was as a job application in terms of it's presentation.

Please Note: Supporting documents are not returned, please do not send originals.

Acknowledgement of Application:

Once you have completed your application online and supporting documents have been received you will be sent an email acknowledging your application and giving you more details for procedures on the testing day.

Notification of Application Outcome:

All parents will be notified of the outcome of their child's application within 4 - 6 weeks of the exam date.

Toorak College Scholarship Benefits:

Academic and General Excellence Scholarships:

External applicants granted an Academic or General Excellence Scholarship will receive up to 50% reduction in tuition fees only. This is valid until the scholarship holder reaches the end of Year 12 and subject to the 'Scholarship Conditions' below.

The financial value of scholarships offered to current Toorak College students (entering Year 7) is at the discretion of the Principal.

Boarding Scholarships:

Full Boarding Scholarships (100% reduction in the Boarding Fees) are available for 2 external applicants entering Year 10 in 2011. Other successful Boarding Scholarship recipients will receive up to a 50% reduction in Boarding Fees only. This is valid until the scholarship holder reaches the end of Year 12 and subject to the 'Scholarship Conditions' below.

The Allfrey Music Scholarship:

Allfrey Music Scholarship recipients will receive a 50% reduction in tuition fees up to and including Year 12 and the provision of ongoing music tuition (eight lessons per term) with the excellent music staff at Toorak College.

Alice Sloan Memorial Scholarship:

One recipient of the Alice Sloan Memorial Scholarship will receive 50% reduction in tuition fees only.

Scholarship Conditions:

Successful applicants not currently enrolled at Toorak College will be required to pay the School’s Application for Enrolment Fee ($66) plus the relevant Endowment Fee.

Scholarships are available for external candidates and Toorak College students entering Year 7 in 2011.

Toorak College reserves the right not to award any scholarship if, in the School’s opinion, there is no appropriate applicant. The decision of the Principal is final and absolute.

In order for the scholarship to be ongoing, recipients must:

  • Continue to make a significant contribution to the School in their area/s of special talent
  • Maintain a satisfactory academic standard
  • Display acceptable conduct
  • Ensure all monies owing to the School are paid as requested
