Professional Development (PD)
Staff Induction Program:
Toorak College makes you feel welcome as a new employee, providing a thorough Staff Induction Program. You will be given a detailed introduction to our beautiful and unique building and grounds, staff structures, curriculum and School culture, as well as the opportunity to make new friends from day one.
Professional Development (PD):
At Toorak College we believe that great teachers play the most important role in the achievement of great student results. Employees who choose to undertake further education and develop themselves are provided with financial support and time to undertake approved PD activities.
Accedited 'Primary Years Program' sessions are run throughout the year for all Junior School staff.
Quarterly Briefings for All Staff:
Toorak College staff get together at the beginning of term to workshop ideas and establish future directions for teaching and learning throughout the School. Staff members have the opportunity to meet and undertake essential curriculum planning and school policy development activities.
Financial Benefits:
Complimentary Childcare Services:
Teaching staff who are registered with the Family Assistance Office are eligible for a non-means tested childcare rebate. Toorak College pays the difference between the rebate and the cost of Toorak College aftercare services, while staff are are engaged in the performance of their professional duties.
Bonus Superannuation Contribution:
Toorak College makes an employer superannuation contribution equivalent to 9% of ordinary time earnings, to a complying superannuation fund nominated by you. If you choose to contribute 5.88% of your salary to our default superannuation fund (AMP Custom Super) and the School will pay an additional 1.5% (10.5% total) employer contribution.
Discounted School Fees:
Permanent, full-time staff (and part-time staff on a pro-rata basis), who have been employed for one year or more, are eligible to receive 50% fee discount for any of their children enrolled at the School. The Principal shall have discretion to determine whether or not a particular student is the child of a staff member for the purposes of this benefit. Any discount received will be considered part of the 'salary package' and for FBT purposes will be subject to the 'threshold limits' at the time the benefit is received. Note: Because of this discount entitlement, scholarships are not available to children of staff.
Social and Wellbeing
Additional Rostered Leave Days:
Toorak College employees receive all Victorian public holidays plus two additional rostered leave days over-and-above the School holidays scheduled throughout the calendar year. The Tuesday following Easter Monday and the Monday before Melbourne Cup Day are designated as rostered leave days for all staff.
Staff Association & Social Club:
That sense of belonging and having fun with colleagues, their friends and families is encouraged and a strong part of the culture at Toorak College. Our Staff Association members are dedicated to welcoming you; looking after the best interests of all staff members and organizing fantastic events throughout the year.
Long Service Leave:
As an employee of Toorak College you are entitled to thirteen weeks’ long service leave upon the completion of ten years’ continuous employment, in accordance with the Award and the Long Service Leave Act 1992 (Vic.). You may however choose to take 10.4 weeks’ long service leave upon completion of 8 years continuous employment.
Pro-rata long service leave entitlements are payable upon termination after seven or more years of continuous employment with Toorak College.
Champagne Awards:
Toorak College employees are recognised each week by their peers and the school management team for their extra effort 'beyond the call of duty'. Nominations for extra efforts are publicly recognised during our weekly staff briefing and rewarded with a ‘Champagne Award'.
Community & Environment
Beyond Boundaries:
Unique opportunities are available to staff who have a passion for activities, journeys, other countries and valuable experiences outside the walls of your classroom. Our 'Beyond Boundaries' program is broad in its range of activities, taking students throughout Australia and across the world; giving staff the chance to share and truly extend young minds.
Sponsorships:
Toorak College is proud to be actively involved in many ways with the local community. We coordinate and support programs which aim to involve students from all schools in surfing (GirlSurf), sailing (GirlSail and golf (GirlGolf) each year.
The School is an active sponsor of the Frankston Arts Centre. Students and staff make use of fantastic facilities and get involved with programs and events which engage the local community.
Fundraising:
Students continuously drive fundraising initiatives, in partnership with the Oaktree Foundation (Schools for Schools) and the Ardoch Foundation. Teams of students from each tutorial group devote their time and energy to supporting these and other worthy causes, specifically supporting children and students in need.
Environment:
Students and Staff throughout the School embrace the 'Reduce Reuse and Recycle' message, in an effort to minimize our carbon footprint. This and other student driven initiatives (including perm culture gardening and reduced water usage) promote responsible paper recycling, glass and plastic disposal, and a more environmentally conscious School and community culture.
