Years 5 & 6
In line with our belief that girls from adolescence excel in an all-girl learning environment, we begin our girls-only Middle Years Program in Year 5 and 6.
The specific focus in Year 5 is on Science and Technology with a Unit of Inquiry on Design and Construction. Year 6 students complete independent, in-depth research culminating in the Year 6 PYP Exhibition.
Connecting through experience
Years 5 and 6 are significant years as we begin transitioning students to Senior School by developing links to the Senior School facilities, teachers and programs.
Leaders of the future
We recognise our Year 5 and 6 students as leaders, and we have designed a stimulating program nurturing leadership, independence, decision making and good citizenship. Year 6 students have a variety of leadership roles at some time in the year.
We emphasise the Performing Arts leading up to our annual Year 6 musical production. Students participate in music and performance through choir, ensemble, music and movement classes and private instrumental lessons.
Year 5 outdoor education program includes:
- An exciting four day trip to Sovereign Hill where girls experience history through observation, role play, technology and experiential workshop.
- An urban city experience where students sample the tastes, sounds and smells of Melbourne.
Year 6 outdoor education program includes:
- A trip to Canberra where girls explore the role of government and develop a greater awareness of civics and citizenship
- Girls conclude the year with a surf and sail camp to Point Leo.
