Our School Song

Spirit

We’ve got spirit, we’ve got pride
We’ll take all victories, in our stride
Determination sees us through
Toorak Girls strong and true

We’re the girls, the Corps d’esprit
We compete with loyalty
We play all sports by the sea
With honour, integrity

Cerutty and Douglas
Hamilton and Pye
Mayfield and Tripp
See them reach the sky

All the Houses come together
To form a team so bold
To represent Toorak College
Red, Blue and Gold

We’ve got spirit, we’ve got pride
We’ll take all victories, in our stride
Determination sees us through
Toorak Girls strong and true

In 2002 the VCE solo Music class wrote the lyrics and music for what was to become the new school song ‘Spirit’. Mrs Margaret Webb, then Principal, had been talking to Year 12 girls about the spirit of the school. She felt it was so strong and evident at House events and in school sport successes. Very quickly a song was written by a group of girls, collaborating with the then Head of Music, Mr Geoff Jones. It was decided that it would be sung by each House as the set song at the House Music Competition that year. At the end of the competition the whole of the Senior School combined in singing ‘Spirit’, while waiting for the final adjudication. Those who were there described it as 'mind blowing'. It typified the House and the School spirit that existed.

‘Spirit’ was created by the 2002 VCE solo performance class consisting of Andrea Rothwell, Natalie Thomas, Sally Goode, Bronwyn Perry, Ms Katrina Di Tomasso (Head of Instrumental), Motomi Sugino, Kate Rockstrom and teacher Mr Geoff Jones. Mrs Webb spoke to Mrs Barb Thomas (Immediate Past Board Chairman and Collegian) about how the Collegians would feel about adopting this as the School song, replacing the Game Song. It was very well received. Since then this song has been embraced by the girls of the Senior School.
