Early Learning Centre
Supporting your child’s curiosity
The Early Learning Centre (ELC) is where a lifetime of learning begins. Our ELC provides a structured, student-centred learning experience tailored to each student’s intellectual, emotional and social development in a supportive, enriching environment.
We recognise the innate curiosity and potential in every child and our child-led project work encourages each child to be strong, capable and resilient as they seek to understand the world and their place in it.
Our Early Learning Program is inspired by the Reggio Emilia philosophies of respect, curiosity and community and delivered through the curriculum framework of the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Program (IB-PYP).
Our vibrant curriculum is informed by the latest research on early child development, encouraging children to develop early language and mathematical skills and providing opportunity to learn through creative activity, movement and dramatic play.
We believe the learning environment is central to the learning process and take great pride in delivering our Early Learning Program in a nurturing and supportive environment designed to enrich the individual learning experience of every child.

Early Learning Centre Program
Warm inviting environment
As a young child grows so does their identity and sense of self; language and physical skills increase dramatically when supported in a play based environment. Our program allows children time to express themselves in a relaxed, warm and inviting environment in an unhurried pace. Our teachers lead small groups throughout the day to build basic literacy and numeracy skills. Students in our 3 year old ELC have access to specialist classes in The Arts, Sport and Library.
‘The overall effects of the use of peers as co-teachers (of themselves and of others) in classes is...powerful. If the aim is to teach students self-regulation and control over their own learning then they must move from being students to being teachers of themselves and others.' (Hattie, 2009)
Research tells us that peers as co-teachers has a positive impact on learning. In Wardle House, all year levels have a buddy. Our 3 and 4 year olds have regular learning sessions with older peers.
An enriching experience
The 4 year old’s attention span has lengthened; physical skills and abilities have refined. Most importantly, he or she is becoming social, with friendships developing or deepening. Our 4 Year Old Program reflects these developmental leaps, challenging students in new and exciting ways. As language skills become increasingly sophisticated, we provide more formal and informal opportunities for enrichment. With greater emphasis on project work and specialist classes in music, art and perceptual motor skills, our students thrive as they are well prepared for the next big leap - School!
Perceptual Motor Program (PMP) and Sports Program
PMP activities enhance body awareness and coordination, in conjunction with promoting cooperation and participation. As children establish greater control and confidence, they are encouraged to transfer these skills to academic, social and emotional engagements.
Developing the creative self
Our Creative Arts Program provides opportunities for self expression in small and large groups through Music, Art and movement.
